Nyles Bauer currently researches Immunology and studied at the University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona. In addition, he has a BS in Electrical and Computer Engineering, a Master’s in Biosystems Engineering with all requirements met for another Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering. He is pursuing a PhD degree in Microbiology and Immunology from the College of Medicine and is currently researching the clinical aspects of an anti-opiate drug called naltrexone, which can often be used inexpensively with no observed toxicity in treating recalcitrant autoimmune diseases as well as potentially in many cancers and AIDS.

Bauer worked as an electrical engineer for an integrated circuit chip manufacturer; a contract for electronic cluster bomb fuses, against his unashamed pacifist ideals, prompted a new career.

In Biosystems Engineering Bauer developed methods to grow edible mushrooms on agricultural waste products for use in arid third world countries.

In Aerospace Engineering Bauer was in charge of the Hybrid Rocket Motor program, funded through a NASA grant. As project leader this allowed research that led to several novel rocket motor designs.

Despite many offers from military contractors, Bauer chose to teach college level courses in mathematics, biology and engineering. These jobs allowed the freedom of world travel to many unusual places, from studying camel reproduction and embryo transfer in Sheik Mohammad’s labs in Dubai, to searching the Gobi for dinosaur eggs, to bribing his way in and out of break-away republics that won’t be found on any map.

Subsequent work included the National Institutes of Health, The Artificial Heart Program at the University of Arizona, along with the many teaching positions already mentioned.
